The Virtues of Sending Blessings Upon Prophet Muhammad

Allah says:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

"Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace" [Quran, Surah Al-Ahzab: 56].

In this verse, Allah commands the believers to send blessings upon His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Know, O Muslim brothers and sisters, may Allah have mercy upon you all, that whenever Allah commands us to do something, there is goodness in it and the doer will attain goodness. Ibnul Qoyyim mentions about among the virtues and benefits of sending blessings upon the Prophet are:

1. Sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad is a form of obedience to Allah

Sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad is a form of obedience to Allah's command. By following this command, Muslim demonstrate their devotion and submission to Allah.

2. It leads to attaining goodness, elevation of ranks, and the forgiveness of sins

Sending blessings upon the Prophet brings goodness to the believers. It elevates their ranks, purifies their souls, and facilitates the forgiveness of their sins. It is a means of seeking Allah's mercy and blessings.

3. It will be a means of intercession from the Prophet on the Day of Judgment

Sending blessings upon the Prophet establishes a connection with him and increases the chances of his intercession on the Day of Judgment. The Prophet's intercession is a great blessing and an opportunity for believers to attain salvation.

4. It will enable one to be close to the Prophet on the Day of Judgment

Sending blessings upon the Prophet is a means of drawing closer to him, both in this world and the hereafter. On the Day of Judgment, those who consistently send blessings will be recognized and acknowledged by the Prophet, thus attaining his companionship and blessings.

5. The one who sends blessings will be supplicated for by Allah and the angels

Those who send blessings upon the Prophet are supplicated for by Allah and the angels. This divine supplication brings blessings, protection, and assistance from Allah and His angels.

6. It results in the acceptance of prayers

Sending blessings upon the Prophet increases the likelihood of one's prayers being accepted by Allah. It serves as a means of seeking Allah's favor and invoking His mercy upon oneself and others.

7. It leads to the forgiveness of sins and the dispelling of worries

Sending blessings upon the Prophet is a source of seeking forgiveness for one's sins. It also helps alleviate worries and difficulties in life, bringing peace and tranquility to the believers' hearts.

8. It brings blessings to one's life and gatherings

Sending blessings upon the Prophet brings blessings to one's life, family, and gatherings. It enhances the atmosphere of gatherings and fills them with goodness, harmony, and spiritual blessings.

9. It prevents stinginess from the one who sends blessings


10. It strengthens and increases love for the Prophet

Consistently sending blessings upon the Prophet fosters a deep love and reverence for him in the hearts of the believers. It strengthens the bond between the believers and the Prophet, motivating them to follow his example and teachings.

11. It contains gratitude and acknowledgment of Allah's blessings

Sending blessings upon the Prophet is an expression of gratitude and acknowledgment of Allah's blessings upon humanity. It recognizes the immense favor of Allah in sending Prophet Muhammad as a mercy to all creation.

12. It brings blessings to one's soul, lifespan, and deeds, and it is a means of goodness.
