The Story of the First Idol, From Art to Worship

Blogger Banjarmasin 1:06:00 PM 0

In the past, statues were highly valued works of art usually created by sculptors. However, there is an interesting story about what happens when human creations become objects of worship for people, in other words, idols, despite the fact that humans should only worship Allah as the Creator of everything on this earth.

Story of the First Idol

The Beginning

The story begins in the time after the creation of the first human, Prophet Adam. At that time, before Prophet Noah was sent as a prophet, there were five individuals who were righteous and obedient to Allah's commands. They were Wadd, the Father, who had four children named Suwa, Yaquts, Ya'uq, and Nashr. They were a righteous family with many followers. They had excellent morals and were greatly loved by their followers.

However, one by one, they passed away, and their mission was passed on to their children. Generation after generation, until one day, their descendants, who were beloved by the people, left this world. People who felt the loss of this family were very sad.

They then made five statues symbolizing the five righteous individuals from their family. They placed these statues in a field where people often passed by. Initially, people saw these statues as symbols of the goodness and righteousness of the five individuals. They felt inspired and desired to worship better.

However, in the next generation, a devil disguised as a human approached them and told them that the statues were actually made to bring them closer to Allah. The devil incited them to make more statues and place them in their own homes so they could always see the statues.

The First Idol

Eventually, in the third generation, the statues started to be worshipped as idols. This marked the beginning of the sin of polytheism, where people worshipped beings other than Allah. Since then, humans began to worship various types of idols such as the sun, moon, fire, and others. The forms of idols became more diverse, including money and leaders.

As a consequence of idol worship, Allah destroyed all those involved in the practice of polytheism through a flood during the time of Prophet Noah. Only Prophet Noah, his family, and a few of his faithful followers were saved in the ark that he built.

That is the story of the first idol worshipped by humans in the world.
