"This world is green and it lulls the heart to sleep," is one of the sayings of the Prophet.
Life will continuously test our faith until death comes. Trials will always approach our lives, and we will never be exempt from them. Starting from what the eyes see, what the ears hear, and the vibrations of the heart, all of them are influenced by nature in all its beautiful and captivating forms.
The sight of the eyes beholding the beauty of the world, combined with the melodious tales about it, makes the heart attached, always desiring and commanding the mind to think about how to obtain it. Fantasies arise, and the whole body is moved to pursue all worldly dreams with all their pleasures.
Within certain limits, enjoying the world is not prohibited. The problem arises when the turmoil within the heart flares up and blinds the eyes to the ultimate purpose of life. The only thing present in the heart and mind is how to attain all that, by any means possible, envisioning self-pleasure even if it remains in the realm of imagination.
Eventually, the entire body becomes exhausted, the mind restless, and the heart becomes anxious because all the fantasies have yet to materialize. One forgets that life is indeed limited, strength is limited, thoughts are limited, and, most frighteningly, one forgets about the aspirations for the hereafter.
Restlessness, anxiety, and deep worry in chasing worldly obsessions must be ended immediately. Regardless of the reasons, worldly affairs will undoubtedly come to an end. It is time to relearn the conviction that worldly affairs are already taken care of by Allah, whoever He may be, and no one will be exempt from His blessings.
We must fulfill what is assigned to us as servants, with the abilities bestowed upon us as divine gifts. So, let the heart be calm regarding worldly matters, and let the heart be restless for matters concerning the hereafter because that is where the accountability lies for all that we do.
No one can bear the consequences of our actions except ourselves.
With concern for the hereafter, it is time to organize all the matters of the hereafter and continually contemplate how to attain salvation when the Most Just Judgment calls upon us.
Once again, calm your heart regarding worldly affairs because Allah has guaranteed your sustenance, and let your concerns be for the hereafter as it will be your responsibility before Allah for all your deeds.
As Ibn Ata'illah said in the book Al-Hikam,
"Relieve yourself from the burden of worldly affairs, for something that has already been taken care of for you by someone other than yourself (by Allah) does not require your involvement."
